Elbow Pads. Ice Hockey Elbow pads should always be worn when playing ice hockey. The top of the elbow pad should meet the bottom of the arm of the shoulder pad and extend down the forearm to the top of the glove. Elbows should be centered in the elbow cap for the best hockey gear protection. The elbow pad should not restrict movement of the elbow.
Wrist Guards. Wrist guards should fit comfortably covering your child’s wrists allowing maximum range of movement.
Ice Hockey gloves. Think of hockey gloves like large winter gloves. When fitting, make sure the bottom of the glove has ample wrist coverage. The hockey glove should have minimal space between the forearm and ice hockey glove. The top section of the hockey glove should extend up the forearm to the lower area of the elbow pad. The ice hockey gloves should offer flexibility of movement for all available positions without restricting movement or chafing. If you turn the glove over, palm facing up you can see if your child's fingers hit the ends of the gloves. This particular hockey gear will make the difference as to whether your child will like the game, so ensure proper comfort as they hold their glorified hockey stick with this gear.
Under Garments. Full undergarments ensure there is no flesh contacting hockey equipment or the ice. Light long sleeve shirts and leggings will ensure that your child will not sweat or be too hot feeling discomfort while playing the game of hockey. Match the player's shin size to the inches of the shin guards. The shin pad should fit outside of the tongue of the skate for ease. Again the key for ice hockey accessories is comfort and maximum range of motion.
Hockey pants. Players should have a good range of motion while wearing pants. If the player can comfortably squat and the padding remains in position, then the pants fit properly. Some children might prefer attaching suspenders to their hockey pants to ensure they don’t fall off while playing the game.
Hockey bags. Hockey bags with wheels are ideal for children so they can roll all of their hockey equipment with ease. Make sure the bag you select has air holes, mesh panels, or some other method of providing sufficient ventilation so moisture and odors will not be trapped inside. This just makes everyone happier!
